The Minnesota Association of Songwriters Monthly Songwriting Craft Workshop is going to be all about Writing and Brainstorming with Melodic Motifs.
This month we will be giving you tools and processes that can help you write more memorable, and effective melodies. Sometimes we focus so much on lyrics that we forget the power of melody, and how we can connect lyrical meaning to melodic structure.
If music theory and creating melody frightens you, don’t be hesitant to join in this session. We will explore this topic through the lens of someone that can’t read music, and only has basic music theory knowledge. It is a lot of fun!
Topics we will cover:
- Using lyrics to create melodic structure.
- What is a melodic motif?
- What makes a melody catchy and memorable?
- Should I be writing lyrics or melody first?
- How can I set my lyrics to music if I am not a musician?
- Melodic tools you can use to develop song sections.
- Using your cell phone to capture ideas.
