Haven’t I Seen You Somewhere Before 8/2024
I try to remember what was the name/ I was
given at birth ‘cause all that remains / is a
face with two eyes and whiskers that grin/ and a
voice that will argue with someone within or the
guy in the mirror, I just can’t be sure…
Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?
And who is this woman who’s serving me tea?/ She’s
quiet and pleasant much younger than me./ With a
comforting touch does everything well/ and
gets me my breakfast ’s I’m givin’ her hell./ I
scowl at her smile when she offers me more.
Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?
CHORUS:
Family brought me to gather with friends/but
I never wanted to see them again/‘cause
I’m still the young man that I’ve always been.
Today I’ll play checkers with that old guy again.
Three out of five he’s been lettin’ me win./ Some
chattin’ some cussin,’ we act like we’re friends.
Later this week, we’ll go at it again./ An’
I’ll shake his hand when he walks through the door.
Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?
CHORUS:
Family brought me to gather with friends/but
I never wanted to see them again/‘cause
I’m still the young man that I’ve always been.
When I fall asleep, I can’t help but snore.
I need my rest, so just close the door./ An’
If I don’t wake up, that’s kind of the Lord./ He
knows I’m awaitin’ what ever’s in store,/ I
won’t need to ask anyone, anymore
haven’t I seen you somewhere before?
I presented this song for Marty Dodson’s review session a few weeks ago. One of his suggestions was to maybe shorten the bridge/chorus, which at the time was just instrumental. That seemed like a good idea so I came up with this bridge/chorus. In order for it to fit in my limited vocal range I had to tune my guitar down to C in stead of E. That’s why is sound kind of muddy.
