Lyrics:

COWBOY
By Paul Nye

VERSE 1:
He was a cowboy, an independent soul
Rode a horse called “Freedom,” wherever he’d go
No need for others; had his own moral code
Freedom took him down a dark and dangerous road

CHORUS:
He was a COWBOY, lived life his own way
An American COWBOY, armed with a “truth” he never weighed
He romanticized the past with a heart full of pride
Swore he’d never change until the day he died
An American COWBOY

VERSE 2:
He rode Freedom with a pistol at his side
The flag and a Bible were his holy guides
When the sun set he slept alone under the stars
Had a gun for protection in a world falling apart

CHORUS:
He was a COWBOY, lived life his own way
An American COWBOY, armed with a “truth” he never weighed
He romanticized the past with a heart full of pride
Swore he’d never change until the day he died
An American COWBOY

BRIDGE:
He baptized his pride in red, white, and blue lies
But mercy don’t give a damn what flag you fly
One day he met a man carrying a cross
Told him freedom has a price, but He’d paid the cost

END CHORUS:
Now that COWBOY, is a new man today
He found freedom when he gave his life away
His pride died with its deception and lies
He rides a horse called Redemption, love and grace are his guide
Yeah, that COWBOY, is a new man today
He found freedom when he gave his life away
His pride died with its deception and lies
He rides a horse called Redemption, love and grace are his guide
He’s a Cowboy, An American Cowboy, A New Cowboy
