The Fog Won’t Lift
He sat alone in his boat where the water gets deep.
Reachin’ for memories he couldn't keep.
The lake looked calm, unlike his mind.
Takin’ his heart, takin’ his time.
He whispered to the sky, but it didn’t talk back.
Then the wind and the rain got in on the act.
Waves got choppy, like they were callin’ his name.
The lighthouse blinked. Seems it knew the game.
The angry fog won’t lift just ’cause he yells.
A friendly light don’t mean he ain’t gone through hell.
He keeps on lookin’ for the life he left behind.
But the mist loves messin’ with his troubled mind.
Yeah, the mist loves messin’ with his troubled mind.
He once knew a woman who could read the clouds,
She said storms are comin’, and it’s gonna get loud.
She pointed to the sky and said “That’s where you’re bound”
When the whiskey’s gone, there ain’t no sound.
Maybe the shoreline’s just an imaginary place,
Not where he lands, but a dream to chase.
Maybe time’s just an anchor he ties his hopes to
Till the chain snaps and the tide pulls him through.
Just wrote this on Monday.
