Cruising in my Chevy on a steamy summer night
One hand on the wheel making all the lights
With my best friend Jim and guy named Jack we hardly knew
Who wanted a ride home a simple thing to do
He asked if we could stop at a small convenience store
He was almost out of smokes needed to get more
When he got back in the car he screamed step on the gas
He held a shiny black handgun and a bag full of cash
Chorus:
In the wrong place at the wrong time
Nothing we could foresee
It was not our plan not our crime
We didn’t know we were riding in bad company
There was cold steel pressed against the back of my head
I yelled what the hell is going on as away we sped
Sweat rolled down my face we roared into the unknown
There was fear in Jimmy’s eyes as we heard the sirens drone
We rounded a curve and in the middle of the road
There was a barricade surrounded by the highway patrol
I hit the brakes swerved right flying out of control
The world went spinning around as we started to roll
[Repeat chorus]
Me and Jim were hanging upside down strapped in our seats
Jack flew through the windshield and lay dead on the street
They put us in handcuffs we were under arrest
The cops said we’d better off if we would confess
Bridge:
Starring through the bars disbelief
How can we convince them that we’re not thieves
Facts are on our side will they believe they’re true
Can we make them understand we are victims too
[Repeat chorus]
