Verse 1
I didn’t stare at her taillights driving away
‘Cause it seemed like such a cliché
Instead I thought about all my sins
Watching colors dancing in the distance
They were so beautiful I couldn’t look away
Though I didn’t like what the lights had to say
Painting all the signs I missed
That I didn’t love her like I promised
Chorus
The green shows me how my jealousy
Made me her worst enemy
The red shows me how my anger
Cost me everything that mattered
Those colors all mean something
About why I now have nothing
All my failures glowing across the sky
Those northern lights don’t lie
Verse 2
Who’ll laugh at our inside jokes
Who’ll make this house a home
Who’ll be sittin’ right by my side
Bingeing a show all through the night
She did every little thing for me
And I made her feel like a nobody
She loved me harder than I deserved
And all I did was make her hurt
Chorus
The yellow shows me how my fear
Kept me from making my feelings clear
The blue shows me how I never asked
Whether she was happy or sad
Those colors all mean something
About why I now have nothing
All my failures glowing across the sky
Those northern lights don’t lie
Bridge
It wasn’t her cries
That made me realize
The blame was all mine
It was those northern lights
Chorus
Green, red, yellow, and blue
Just symbols for all I put her through
Those colors all mean something
About why I now have nothing
All my failures glowing across the sky
Those northern lights don’t lie
No, those northern lights don’t lie
