THE LONG RIDE
By Paul Nye
VERSE 1:
These days, I’ve been saying good-bye
To the past I’ve held onto most of my life
And I know I won’t miss what has dragged me down
But I hold onto friends who stuck around
CHORUS:
People come and go, but close friends we hold dear
The ones who were there through our triumphs & tears
Life is a journey – a map that fades with time
But true friends stay for the long ride
VERSE 2:
Growing up wasn’t easy – with the cards I was dealt
Every pothole I hit, took me back to what I felt
And those potholes left scars that faded with time
But I’ve learned how to leave that hurt behind
CHORUS:
People come and go, but close friends we hold dear
The ones who are there through our triumphs & tears
Life is a journey – a map that fades with time
But true friends stay for the long ride
BRIDGE:
I left home with the keys to a beat-up old car
With a trunk full of memories I’ve had so far
Now my body’s an old engine that’s carried me through
Past the wreckages of life and people I knew
VERSE 3:
Life isn’t a license to a right we hold
It’s a gift we’re given- not bought or sold
There’s no guarantee every road will be smooth
Just the promise God is there whatever road we choose
END CHORUS/TAG:
Life is a journey – a map that fades with time
But true friends stay for the long ride
Stay for the ride, Stay for the Long Ride
