The Protester’s Song
Terry Kennedy-Lares -copyright 2026
Spoken: Sitting on the couch watching the news is driving me crazy. It seems like everything
is falling apart. What’s going to happen next? I know that I just have to do something.
Standing in the cold, feeling pretty old, a sign is in my hands,
Trying to catch their eyes as people drive by, hoping they understand.
A six year old son, lost his mother to a gun, shot down dead and cold,
People don’t care, they sit and stare at their favorite TV shows,
Chorus:
America you broke my heart,
you promised me a dream but you lied to me,
America you broke my heart,
Where is that land of life and liberty?
Standing in the rain, feeling all the pain of the people in our land,
Been here before, stepping through the door, I have to take a stand,
Trying to melt the ICE, with Minnesota nice, will not change a thing,
Gotta take a stand, for our Country and our land, and let our freedom ring,
Chorus;
Bridge:
We’re living in a fascist nightmare, We’re living in a broken land,
We’re living in a fascist nightmare, We’re living in a broken land.
Chorus x 2
Just started mixing this, not as yet mastered, written basically for those who are out there on the frontlines protesting.
