VERSE 1
Wings once broken, now set free.
Pain once felt now released.
Earthly wounds that held you down
Now are nowhere to be found.
CHORUS
Fly Little Birdie, you’re free to roam
And sing out loud, I’m Home Sweet Home.
Fly Little Birdie, to Angels’ arms
There’s no one now who can do you harm.
VERSE 2
Born with limits few have faced
You lived a life with strength and grace
And freely loved with an open heart,
Despite your struggles right from the start.
CHORUS
Fly Little Birdie, you’re free to roam
And sing out loud, I’m Home Sweet Home.
Fly Little Birdie, to Angels’ arms
There’s no one now who can do you harm.
BRIDGE
Free from burdens, free from pain
It’s just my tears that now remain.
I love you now as I loved you then
And wait for the day we’re together again.
CHORUS
Fly Little Birdie, you’re free to roam
And sing out loud, I’m Home Sweet Home.
Fly Little Birdie, to Angels’ arms
There’s no one now who can do you harm.
Fly.
Fly.
Fly, Little Birdie. You are free.
This song is a tribute to my nephew, Derek, who was born with a cognitive deficiency, was abused by a step-father, struggled in many ways, but always wanted to travel, but most of all he wanted his own place to call home … his favorite song was Home Sweet Home by the Motley Cru. He worked at a high end hotel in the housekeeping department where he was loved and appreciated. He started having pain, the doctor thought he was after drugs (based on skinny, long-haired look, I suppose) and refused an MRI. After his pain became debilitating, an MRI was done and showed a rare “pan coast tumor” … stage 4 lung cancer. Despite an aggressive treatment plan, his body couldn’t take it and he passed away. His whole life was a struggle. Little Birdie is the nickname his sister gave to him and the title is based on a tribute my niece wrote and I read at his funeral. The lyrics and melody are “human created” by me … enhanced by SUNO.
