Lyrics:

My Old Friend Jack (01/02/26 Revised)

(Intro)
I thought I heard you in the other room
It’s 3 AM and I remembered you’re not here
We’ve had so many fights, all over one thing
You told me to choose between you and my old friend Jack

(Verse 1)
I need to find a different buddy then the hooch
Because I loved you with all my heart
I promised to stop drinking and be a sober man
But…. I always get lured back by my old friend Jack

(Verse 2)
I remember that awful day we had another fight
And I was driving too fast
That sound of breaking glass haunts me to this day
Then…… the only one I had left was my old friend Jack

(Verse 3)
Day and night becomes a blur without you
Sometimes I think I’m doing fine alone
Then I see the picture of us on our wedding day
So,….. I have a long visit with my old friend Jack

(Verse 4)
I’m sick of always waking up with a spinning head
Every day I promise myself I’ll give up the booze
And most of that day I’m straight as an arrow
But memories of you flood my mind and I get a call from my old friend Jack

(Outro)
Promises are like maybes easy to say and easy to break
The love of my life is gone and I regret I didn’t listen to her
I found out life is a tough teacher
She gives the test first and the lesson later
That’s why I no longer listen to my old friend Jack
Good bye……….. my old friend Jack

I wanted to write a song with a story and no rhyme.

I appreciate your comments
