Lyrics:

(Minnesota)

(Intro)
The crystal-clear water reflects from the lake
Skies so blue make no mistake
Why and where have the fish gone from the deep
Has mother-nature forgotten this northern gem………… or is she just asleep
(Chorus)
Minnesota have you really gone away
My childhood memories of you seem like yesterday
Fish, birds and forest creatures disappeared, so cruel
I should have stayed and protected this jewel
(Verse 1
The sky was once covered by waterfowl, what a charm
Pheasants abounded on every farm
Hunt and fish every season was the rule
Leaving this garden of Eden,…….. I must have been a fool

(Chorus)
Minnesota have you really gone away
My childhood memories of you seem like yesterday
Fish, birds and forest creatures disappeared, so cruel
I should have stayed and protected this jewel

(Verse 2)
The mightiest of the great lakes is invaded by mussel
I remember lake trout giving me such a tussle
Lake Mill Lacs was once a walleye producing wonder
The population loss is such a terrible blunder
(Chorus)
Minnesota have you really gone away
My childhood memories of you seem like yesterday
Fish, birds and forest creatures disappeared, so cruel
I should have stayed and protected this jewel

Waterfowl fly to a reserve south of the state
Pheasants for pay is now the hunter’s fate
Lakes are infested by invasive plants and fish
These events are certainly not our wish
(Bridge)
What have we done to the land of sky blue waters?
What will we tell our sons and daughters?
The North Star State is not what it used to be
Nature is ignored and the consequences are plain to see
(Outro)
Minnesota have you really gone away
My childhood memories of you seem like yesterday
Fish, birds and forest creatures disappeared, so cruel
I should have stayed and protected this jewel

Comments by composer(s):

I was talking with some my old hunting buddies in Minnesota and I was amazed at the hunting and fishing changes that have happened since I moved to California in 1989.
That inspired me to write this song.

I wrote the lyrics and SUNO did the vocal and music with my input
