2021

Don't be acting like the beasts of the forest, no, no, no
Such behavior is so far beneath you, don't ya know
Practice kindness and forbearance, mercy, love and care
Swim against your negative opinions, if you dare

CHORUS
Twenty-twenty-one, the year starts over, fresh and new
Like a rising sun that shines on sparkling morning dew
I can see ahead, the future beckons us to run
Searching for a better life in twenty-twenty-one.

So much anger and division driving us apart
We can recreate our unity; it's not that hard
Good communication is essential, it's so true
We'll use the signals that we send between me and you.

REPEAT CHORUS

Look out into space
Wonder on your face
There is more than just a trace
Of stardust in your bones

REPEAT CHORUS

When I was a young lad Grandad and Joe next door
Told me of their days in the Irish Civil War
They served with Owen Duffy in the hills of Monaghan
Wreaking hell and havoc on the British Black and Tans

They were in communications and organized the fight
Talking to each other with mirrors or flashlight
“Bless us, Joe” grandad did say, “We still live to tell tales
Of staging raids on barracks from Drumore to Emyvale

“Every mission started and ended
And all our comrades lives depended
On the signals that we’d send between me and you
In nineteen-twenty, ‘twenty-one, and ‘twenty-two”

Joe said to grandad, “Do you mind the day
We were ambushed on the border, north of Dartray?
You gave me the sign ‘Safe passage to the south’
We retreated and regrouped down in County Louth

“Every mission started and ended
And all our comrades lives depended
On the signals that we’d send between me and you
In nineteen-twenty, ‘twenty-one, and ‘twenty-two”

They fought for freedom
No one and nothing could defeat ‘em
God, I wish I could’ve seen ‘em
In their glory days!

They said “Every mission started and ended
And all our comrades lives depended
On the signals that we’d send between me and you
In nineteen-twenty, ‘twenty-one, and ‘twenty-two
In nineteen-twenty, ‘twenty-one, and ‘twenty-two”

2021 Chances

Here we sit, a silence between us
What happened to the days we’d talk deep into the night
Are they gone for good is there no concern
For the passion I crave that never seems returned
And that I’ve loved you even when I’ve wondered why

Chorus:

That over 2021 times I’ve said I’m walking out that door
2021 times I’ve cried I just can’t take it anymore
I’ve given you 2021 chances to mend, the heartache that you’ve caused
And I’ll give you 2021 more chances just because

Lying in bed, I’m deep in the dream
Of the goodbye speech that will never be said
That the ties must be cut, that run so deep
I have needs and desires that I struggle to keep
And that I’ve loved you even when I’ve wondered why

Chorus

The signals that we send between me and you
Keep me asking what am I supposed to do
I want you and need you, that much is true
Cause you’re too much a part of me

Chorus
