A monthly 90-minute or so educational module on actual songwriting. Doesn’t have to be a pro writer. Don’t think there’s been one since Chad left in late summer of 2022. Perhaps some music theory made easy or even instrument playing tips as music, melody, and arrangement is half of the songwriting process. Attendance relative to the most attended event above might indicate needs?? Stability, not changing times and dates of pre-scheduled events I think would help. Delegating when the host can’t make the schedule? Interviews with writers (not just with MAS) doesn’t always bring useful value. Especially if they are commercial writers as most members aren’t on that trek.

It would probably have to be a full day (I would even like it to be two days, but that is probably not practical). Participants would need to preregister and would get instructions for how to prepare for the workshop (maybe choose a song topic and have an assignment–maybe like Pat Pattison’s three boxes) to be done before the workshop to save time when the event starts. Then a structured workshop with sessions where participants are led through a process. Maybe something like, start by writing a chorus, followed by choosing a song style, etc. Or start by choosing a music loop or loops, followed by writing a chorus, etc. The goal would be for each participant to have one song completed by the end of the workshop.

Every songwriter is at a different level of songwriting. I am 3 years into song creation, so I can learn on every level, from production, song structure, to creating effective melodies. MSA does a great job of presenting all facets at all levels of songwriting. Lastly, I love the ability to network with fellow songwriters on Zoom or in person.l

I think it would help to bring more women into MAS if we had a forum designed just for women songwriters and their needs and desires. I think overall MAS is a great organization. However, it might be worth it to go over our Mission Statement and see if any changes or updates need to be made. It is a crucial tool for keeping an organization on track with what they are about and the services they provide.

The times are usually challenging for me as it overlaps with my kids’ bedtime, otherwise I would attend more frequently. But I do really appreciate the recordings so I can watch later. Thank you!

We are ALL looking forward to being able to meet in person more often!!! Unfortunately, this year I was not able to attend any meetings on Wed. or Thursdays, so even though I love the events, I was not able to participate. I am hoping to be able to change my commitments so I will be available to attend.

I really find value in reviews, but it’s hard to make time to meet in person for a long period. A simple solution (from a tech perspective) would be to set up could be putting together an email forum for people interested in participating. If a lot of people were interested, it might be good to have different email forums for different genres. It was recently communicated that people were emailing the MAS group too much. A solution could be to set up a separate forum for people who are okay with getting lots of emails from the group. And keep the current forum for communications from MAs leadership. Thanks for the survey!
