What is your age? How long have you been a member of MAS? Age when you wrote first song Do you do any co-writing? Do you register your copyrights? Do you belong to a PRO? What else would you like to know about our members? Comments

Is anyone interested in learning or teaching sheet music engraving?

I’d like to learn more about the recording and mixing aspects of songwriting.

I’d like to see people take more of an interest in other member’s work. More often than not the gallery sections on our website go untouched. I liked the way Vicki Morrison Goble listened and commented on one or two individuals each month. I don’t think we need group participation in listening, just comradery.

I’d like to see a message system called “Looking for help” where a member can post a request to learn more about anything that the other members might have an answer for. How do I mic a guitar, can anyone ad a violin or bass line to my song etc.

In my opinion we have a pretty good group of individuals supporting the club collectively.

I thought I had been a member for longer than three years but maybe not as my membership records only go back to September 2018.

I am a newer member and I can’t tell you how much I enjoy the support and welcoming nature of this organization. The workshops Chad does are amazing, the song review is sooo helpful, and I just really am impressed by this organization. I am grateful for so many virtual things as I wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise since I’m in greater Minnesota

Having guest workshops or just Zoom interviews is always fun and seems to draw a crowd. We should do that 6-8 times a year.

What inspires your songwriting?

What’s your favorite songwriting topic?

I have played music professionally since high school. No sense quitting now!

I am most inspired to write by the ocean in Dominican Republic.

Aperso’s emotional story is my favorite topic.

Do any of the members write lyrics, but don’t compose the music?

71-90 I was a member for a year a few years ago, attended a few events, dropped out, then received some e-mails this year, attended a few video events and re-joined. 13-20 Sometimes Sometimes No

What approaches are they using to producing their songs, daw, techniques, etc, copyrighting, getting songs infront of appropriate people, and promote what they do. Also, I’m interested in why they write songs. ie: are they following the “Nashville” approach and writing songs just to sell, or do they write songs to communicate to the world about their values, hoping to add to the fabric of society and make this a better place. Also, what niche are they focusing on producing their songs for. More of the personal approaches people use to writing, like how often they write, and personal muses, etc. What is their favorite song that was not a big hit, and why? What touches them in a song?

51-70 Belonged 1995-7, rejoined 2020 21-30 Never Never I don’t know what that is

Zoom has shrunk MAS songwriting world, & MAS has hit a grand slam home run in embracing & effectively utilizing it.

I love the range of opportunities MAS provides to its members. I am too busy to participate in many of them, but I have remained a member for many years to show my support. Retirement is coming in a few years and I hope to be able to participate more actively at that time.

What drives a person to write songs? What is the motivation? Why do so many members of MAS preach the right and wrongs of songwriting when there are no rules?

One thing that I’ve learned is that co-writing is different with every individual but consistent between me and any particular individual.

Who can you call for advice.the older members go to each other.they also cherry pick new members.
Some of us are in limbo but want to improve.
How can we ?

I’d live to see an outdoor maybe enclosed fair
Some food and beverages purchased ahead .
Want to learn to copyrt.
Want to review keystrokes
The chords are key.
Brush up on …
Melodies.
Lyric sheets.
Submissions.
Review Brad’s class on pro ,etc
And we could cherry pick our day.
